TREC General Counsel, Vanessa Burgess, and TREC Deputy General Counsel, Abby Lee, will be joining us on May 21st to provide valuable insight as to how to properly run your property management company and tips to avoid TREC complaints. Vanessa and Abby will be covering the following topics:

- Updates (statutory or otherwise) that may impact your property management business
- Do’s and Don’ts if you receive a TREC complaint

Vanessa Burgess serves as the General Counsel for the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). In her role as General Counsel, Ms. Burgess advises both the Commission and TREC leadership on agency legal matters. She also works closely with TREC committees, including the Broker-Lawyer Committee who are responsible for drafting and revising TREC contract forms.
Prior to joining the team at TREC, Ms. Burgess served as the Deputy General Counsel for the Railroad Commission of Texas, the state agency charged with regulating the oil and gas and surface mining industries. Ms. Burgess previously worked in the Office of General Counsel for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department where she served as counsel over two large land trusts dedicated to serving underprivileged children in Texas and began her career with the State of Texas working at the Office of the Attorney General.
Ms. Burgess received her B.A. in Spanish from Kenyon College and her J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law. In her free time, Ms. Burgess enjoys spending time with her husband and chasing after their three young children
Abby Lee currently serves as Deputy General Counsel for the Texas Real Estate Commission. Prior to joining TREC, Abby worked as in-house counsel for Texas REALTORS® for nearly eight years, serving first as Associate Counsel, then Senior Associate Counsel. Most recently, Abby served as an assistant general counsel for the Texas Medical Association. Abby graduated with honors from the University of Kansas in 2007 and received her JD from Baylor Law School in 2011.
