MetroTex – Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech
MetroTex is aware of the situation involving a REALTOR® aboard a flight bound for DFW Airport. The actions shown in the video do not reflect the integrity of the 25 thousand members of the MetroTex Association of REALTORS® who subscribe to a comprehensive Code of Ethics established by the National Association of REALTORS®.
The MetroTex Association of REALTORS® has zero tolerance for hate speech. Period. The rhetoric that was spewed is abhorrent, and totally against the core values of the MetroTex Association and the REALTORS® Code of Ethics.
Article 10 of the REALTORS® Code of Ethics states: REALTORS® shall not deny equal professional services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. REALTORS® shall not be parties to any plan or agreement to discriminate against a person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. (Amended 1/14)
REALTORS®, in their real estate employment practices, shall not discriminate against any person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. (Amended 1/14)
Standard of Practice 10-5 further states: REALTORS® must not use harassing speech, hate speech, epithets, or slurs based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. (Adopted and Effective 11/2020)
MetroTex strives to educate and encourage the highest standards of its 25,000+ members. We are stunned and appalled by the behavior displayed, and the pain that was felt by others through this behavior. Membership with the MetroTex Association for this REALTOR® will no longer be an option.
